I Don't Have a Backup Plan

The beauty of something new is all about the anticipation, freshness, or promise of possibility. I hope this new year is bringing all those good vibes to you and more.

But, guess what! Even more than the possibilities that a new year brings, I believe God also has some surprises for us this year. I know, I know . . . sometimes it’s really hard to sit in anticipation about what God will do in our lives next.

Like, sometimes it’s REALLY hard to wait on God. Many of us have been waiting for the manifestation of God’s promises in our lives for a long time, but there’s something about this year that has me expecting God. I haven’t felt this feeling in a while, but when I open my email every day, I’m expecting to see something good. When I answer my phone, I’m expecting to hear something great. I have an expectation in my heart that’s undeniable, and I don't believe I’m alone.

I love how Romans 8:28 explains the goodness of God, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” So, no matter what the last few years have yielded, I have an eager expectation that something good is about to happen. I’ve faced sickness, frustrations with my career, emotional setbacks, and much more, but I believe that all that stuff is working for my good just as Romans talks about.

After all I’ve been through, I can’t help but continue to give God complete control of my life. And, honestly, I don’t have a backup plan; my only plan is God’s plan. I find when I’m in 100% control of something I don’t always get it right. So, I have no choice but to be open to God’s perfect plan for my life, and I must accept that God’s plan comes with His instructions for my life . . . and that requires obedience. I can’t expect to see the goodness of God and be disobedient at the same time–a total oxymoron.

This year, rather than leaning on my own understanding and plans for my life, I’m walking in love, forgiveness, dedicating myself to prayer, fasting, and serving the Lord with all my heart. Likewise, I challenge you to give up your plans and really ask God, “How do I embrace Your plans for my life?”

And, if you give up your plans for God’s plans, trust me when I say, the Lord will help you, “Find Your Garden, Plant, & Bloom.” (Just a little shameless plug for episode 17 of the Girl Go Global podcast. Me and my girl Tiffany Reneé talk all about finding purpose and watering it until it blossoms.) So, as 2023 is still warming up, my prayer is, “Surprise me Lord! Whatever you want, I want.” That’s how I’m going global this year. What about you?

“Part of your assignment here is to give away what’s been put in you.” --Tiffany Reneé, Girl Go Global Podcast, Episode 17, "Find Your Garden, Plant & Bloom"
